If you are unhappy with the size or shape of your natural breasts, or if you have lost one or both breasts to cancer or another traumatic event, Solana Beach breast surgeon Dr. Anshu Gupta can help. The trusted surgeon offers a range of breast procedures designed to create or reconstruct beautiful and natural-looking breasts. Breast surgery options include the following:
Breast augmentation enhances naturally small or asymmetrical breasts through the placement of saline or silicone implants. The implants are placed either in front of or behind the chest muscle through an incision around the nipple, breast crease or underarm.
Breast lift restores saggy, deflated breasts to a better position on the chest wall. Excess skin is removed and the breast tissue is reshaped to create a perkier and more youthful breast shape.
Breast reduction alleviates the physical and psychological side effects of heavy, oversized breasts. By removing excess breast tissue and skin, the breasts are re-proportioned to balance out the rest of the body.
Male Breast Reduction
Male breast reduction treats gynecomastia, a condition characterized by enlarged male breasts. Surgery may include liposuction of fatty tissue and, if needed, excision of excess glandular tissue and skin, to create a firmer and flatter chest contour.
For many women, breast reconstruction is a part of the healing process. There are several reconstructive options to choose from, including tissue expanders with implants or a flap of the patient’s own skin/fat/muscle from another area of the body.
Breast Reconstruction with Implants
This type of breast reconstruction uses breast implants — silicone devices filled with silicone or salt water (saline) — to reshape your breasts. Primary goal is to recreate the breast contour and volume. The breast reconstruction process begins with the placement of a breast implant or tissue expander, either at the time of your mastectomy surgery (immediate reconstruction) or during a later procedure (delayed reconstruction).
DIEP Flap & SGAP Flap
DIEP and SGAP flaps are two of the most advanced breast reconstruction options available to provide natural looking results, an option uniquely provided by Dr. Anshu Gupta at Verve Plastic Surgery. A DIEP flap is taken from the lower abdomen, whereas a SGAP flap is taken from the top of the buttocks to create or cover the breast mound. No muscles are mobilized.
A TRAM flap involves the transfer of skin, fat and one of the rectus muscles from the lower part of the abdomen to the chest area. The transferred tissue can either stay attached at the other end of the muscle with its blood supply and is just tunneled under the chest skin to reach the area of the breast mound, or can be completely detached from the abdomen site and re-attached to another blood supply source in the chest.
Latissimus Dorsi Flap
A latissimus dorsi flap uses muscle, fat and skin from the back tunneled to the mastectomy site and remains attached to its donor site, leaving blood supply intact. Occasionally, the flap itself can reconstruct a complete breast mound, but often needs an implant to provide additional volume. The flap itself provides the muscle and tissue necessary to cover and support a breast implant.
