Breast Lifts

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift (mastopexy) is a surgical procedure that lifts and reshapes sagging breasts to create a more youthful, perky appearance. Over time, factors like aging, gravity, weight changes, or breastfeeding can cause the breasts to lose their shape and firmness. A breast lift removes excess skin, tightens the surrounding tissue, and repositions the nipple and areola for a more natural, balanced look. While it doesn’t significantly change breast size, it can be combined with implants, a reduction, and an internal bra for enhanced results.

Why get a breast lift?

  • For those happy with their breast size but unhappy with sagging, a lift provides a refreshed look—without increasing or reducing volume.

  • A lift reshapes sagging breasts and brings them higher on the chest for a perkier, more youthful appearance.

  • Sagging breasts can cause skin irritation, chafing, or discomfort—especially in warmer weather or during exercise. A lift can alleviate these issues by improving support and positioning.

  • The procedure corrects downward-pointing or uneven nipples, enhancing both appearance and balance.

Types of Breast Lifts

At Verve Plastic Surgery, we offer a range of breast lift techniques customized to your anatomy and desired results. Dr. Gupta will help determine the best option for you during your consultation.

Anchor Lift

Our most popular lift, the anchor lift provides the most dramatic reshaping—ideal for patients with significant sagging or stretched skin. It involves three incisions: around the areola, vertically down the breast, and along the breast crease. This technique allows for maximum lifting, contouring, and repositioning of the nipple and areola.

Donut Lift

(Periareolar or Circumareolar Lift)

Best suited for mild sagging or subtle adjustments, the donut lift involves a single circular incision around the areola. It’s a great option for women who need a slight lift, correction of nipple asymmetry, or a combination procedure with implants to enhance shape without more extensive scarring.

Lollipop Lift

The lollipop lift is ideal for moderate sagging and involves two incisions: one around the areola and one vertically down to the breast fold. It offers significant lift and reshaping with less scarring than the anchor lift, making it a popular choice for many women looking for noticeable improvement without extensive incisions.

The Procedure

Here’s what you can expect during your breast augmentation procedure.

    • This is an outpatient procedure performed at a hospital or surgery center. You will be asleep under general anesthesia.

    • Before surgery, Dr. Gupta will draw precise incision markings on your breasts. These markings outline how much skin will be removed and where the nipple and areola will be repositioned for a lifted appearance.

    • Incisions are made according to your breast shape and surgical plan. This often includes a lollipop (vertical) or anchor-shaped incision.

    • Excess skin is removed, and your breast is lifted to achieve a more youthful position.

    • The remaining breast tissue is carefully sculpted to create a fuller, rounder, and firmer breast shape.
This step helps restore volume higher on the chest and improves overall symmetry.

    • The nipple and areola are moved higher on the breast mound to match the lifted shape.
In most cases, they remain attached to preserve blood supply and sensation.

    • The areola size may also be reduced if needed.

    • The breast is closed in multiple internal layers to ensure long-term support and secure healing.

    • Waterproof dressings are applied to the incisions. If additional procedures are performed, a drain may be placed, though this is not always required.

    • You will be placed in a supportive compression bra.

    • Surgery typically takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on breast size, skin quality, and whether additional procedures (like augmentation or reduction) are combined.

    • You will return home the same day with detailed recovery instructions.

    • Compression garments will be worn for about 6 weeks to support healing and maintain shape.

Add on an Internal Bra!

Support That Lasts. Confidence That Shows.

  • Think of it as an internal sports bra—a hidden support system placed inside your body to help lift, shape, and hold your breasts in place long after surgery. At Verve Plastic Surgery, Dr. Gupta uses advanced mesh materials like Galatea and TIGR to create a secure internal framework that becomes part of your natural anatomy over time. It’s a game-changer for long-lasting, sculpted results.

  • During your procedure, Dr. Gupta places a soft, flexible mesh inside the breast to act as internal scaffolding. This mesh reinforces the tissue and helps prevent issues like sagging or implant shifting.

  • Adding an internal bra to your breast lift provides extra internal support to help maintain your results over time. This technique reinforces the breast tissue from within—acting like an invisible bra that holds the lifted shape in place. It can reduce the risk of future sagging, improve upper pole fullness, and give longer-lasting, more stable results—especially for patients with thinner tissue or significant laxity.

    • Acts like an internal sports bra

    • Prevents sagging and implant displacement

    • Enhances cleavage, shape, and lift

    • Long-term support and stability

    • Seamlessly integrates with your own tissue

  • No! Internal bras are not one size fits all. The type, size, and placement of the mesh are carefully customized by Dr. Gupta based on your anatomy, surgical goals, and level of support needed.

Well I’ve kind of put it to my husband and other people, my family, like I started with fog lights and I ended up with headlights. Essentially the nipples go from pointing down to pointing straight ahead.

Excess tissue and skin is removed in order to pick up the breast so that it sits a lot higher than wherever it was sitting previously.

Everything went great after. The healing process has been faster and easier than I thought it would be and Dr. Guta’s office also works through text. So anytime I had a question about medication I was taking or anything else that was popping up in the recovery process, I was able to text them and get a response immediately, which was really, really helpful and I absolutely love the results.

My husband loves the results, though he was not upset about my previous breasts in any way.

We both feel like this is, these are the breasts I should have had all along and that has made everything easier for me in terms of shopping and fitting in previous clothes. I fit in my previous clothes much better and I just overall feel like I look like I should have always looked all along.

FAQs

  • A breast lift is ideal for individuals experiencing sagging or a loss of shape due to aging, pregnancy, or weight changes. Good candidates are in overall good health, have nipples that sit low or point downward, and want to restore a more lifted and youthful breast contour without necessarily changing their breast size.

  • Tere are three main incision types: periareolar (around the areola), lollipop (around the areola and vertically down), and anchor (around the areola, vertically down, and along the breast crease). Dr. Gupta will recommend the best approach based on your needs and anatomy.

  • Some patients may experience temporary changes in nipple or breast sensation after a breast lift. This can include increased sensitivity, decreased sensation, or numbness. In most cases, sensation gradually returns over time. Permanent changes are less common but can occur. Dr. Gupta uses techniques designed to preserve nerve function and minimize this risk whenever possible.

  • Many patients are still able to breastfeed after a breast lift, especially when the nipple and milk ducts are left intact. However, there is a small risk that milk production may be affected. If future breastfeeding is important to you, be sure to discuss this with Dr. Gupta during your consultation so she can tailor your surgical plan accordingly.

  • Most patients can return to light activities and work within 5 to 7 days, depending on their job. Swelling and soreness are common for the first couple of weeks. Exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for about 4 to 6 weeks. Dr. Gupta will provide detailed aftercare instructions and guide you through each stage of recovery to ensure the best possible results.

Enhance Your Breast Lift

These are additional procedures we highly recommend combining with a breast lift to achieve a more complete transformation. Pairing treatments can enhance your overall results and create better balance and harmony throughout the body.

Lateral Chest Wall Liposuction

  • Lateral chest wall liposuction targets excess fat along the sides of the chest, just beneath the armpit and along the outer breast or bra line area. This procedure helps smooth bulges, enhance the contour of the upper body, and create a more defined, sculpted transition between the breast and torso. It's often combined with breast or body procedures for a more seamless, balanced result.

  • Adding lateral chest wall liposuction to your breast lift helps create a smoother, more sculpted contour along the sides of your chest and upper torso. It removes excess fat in the bra line or underarm area that can distract from your results, allowing for a cleaner silhouette and better definition. This combination enhances the overall outcome of your breast lift by improving shape, balance, and symmetry from every angle.

Back Lift

  • A back lift, or torsoplasty, is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower back to create a smoother, more toned contour. It’s especially beneficial for patients who have lost significant weight and are left with sagging or rolled skin along the back and flanks. The procedure helps restore a firmer, more balanced silhouette and enhances overall body proportions.

  • Adding a back lift to your body contouring plan improves the overall shape and definition of your torso by tightening loose skin and eliminating unwanted rolls or folds. This helps achieve a more streamlined, youthful appearance and complements other procedures like tummy tucks or breast lifts for a comprehensive transformation.
