What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes excess fat deposits from specific areas of the body to improve contour and shape. It is commonly performed on areas such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, and neck. By targeting stubborn fat that doesn’t respond to diet and exercise, liposuction helps create a slimmer, more defined appearance.

Why get Liposuction?

  • Liposuction removes localized fat deposits that are resistant to diet and exercise, helping to sculpt and refine your body shape.

  • The procedure is highly customizable—you can choose the specific areas you’d like to target, such as the abdomen, thighs, hips, arms, or neck.

  • Liposuction creates a slimmer, more balanced silhouette, often used to enhance the results of other body procedures.

  • With proper maintenance, the fat removal is permanent, providing lasting improvements in body shape and confidence.

Common Areas for Liposuction

Liposuction is a versatile body contouring procedure that removes stubborn fat deposits to create a slimmer, more sculpted appearance. Some of the most common areas treated with liposuction include the abdomen, flanks (love handles), thighs, arms, back, and under the chin, but these are just a few examples. Liposuction can be performed on many areas of the body, and Dr. Gupta will help you determine the best approach based on your unique needs and goals.

The Procedure

Here’s what you can expect during your liposuction procedure.

    • You will receive either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia depending on the extent of treatment.

    • Dr. Gupta will mark the target areas where excess fat will be removed, such as the abdomen, flanks, thighs, or arms.

    • Small, discreet incisions (about 2–3 mm) are made near the treatment sites. These allow insertion of a thin cannula for fat removal.

    • Dr. Gupta uses a gentle suction technique to remove excess fat deposits through the cannula.
This sculpts and contours the body, improving proportion and shape.

    • Incisions are closed if needed or left open for drainage.

    • You’ll be fitted with a compression garment to reduce swelling, support healing, and help skin retract.

    • Liposuction is usually an outpatient procedure; you’ll go home the same day.

    • Swelling and bruising are normal in the first 1–2 weeks.

    • Initial results appear as swelling decreases, with final contour visible over 3–6 months.

 FAQs

  • Liposuction removes fat but does not tighten loose or sagging skin. If you have skin laxity, combining liposuction with a skin-tightening procedure (such as a tummy tuck, arm lift, or thigh lift) may be recommended.

  • Yes, the fat cells removed are permanently gone. However, maintaining your results depends on keeping a stable weight through healthy habits, as remaining fat cells can still enlarge.

  • Recovery usually involves swelling, bruising, and wearing compression garments for a few weeks. Most patients return to light activities within 5-7 days and resume full activities after 4-6 weeks.

  • Liposuction is not designed for significant weight loss. It is best for patients who are close to their ideal weight but want to refine and contour specific areas.

  • With a healthy lifestyle and stable weight, the results of a Mommy Makeover can last many years, though natural aging will continue.

  • Liposuction requires small incisions where the cannula is inserted. These incisions typically heal very well and leave small, discreet scars that fade over time and are often hidden in natural creases.
