An internal bra is a surgical technique that reinforces your breast from the inside using a soft, supportive mesh—like Galatea or TIGR. It acts like an internal sports bra, giving your results added lift, structure, and long-term stability. Often used in breast augmentations, lifts, and revisions, this technique helps prevent sagging, enhances shape, and becomes part of your body over time for natural, seamless support.

The Procedure

Here’s what you can expect during your internal bra procedure.

    • You will be placed under general anesthesia to ensure you are comfortable and pain-free during the procedure.

    • Dr. Gupta will make incisions based on the type of breast surgery you are having—whether it’s an augmentation, lift, reduction, or revision.

    • Common incision patterns include around the areola, vertically down the breast, or within the natural breast fold, depending on your surgical plan.

    • The breast tissue is reshaped or repositioned to achieve the desired contour and lift. This step sets the foundation for the internal support.

    • The surgical mesh or internal bra is placed internally to create an “internal sling.”

    • This mesh is anchored securely to the chest wall or existing breast tissue to provide long-term support from underneath.

    • Once the internal support is in place, Dr. Gupta will carefully close the incisions using sutures. In some cases, surgical tape or glue is used to enhance healing and minimize scarring.

    • Sterile dressings are applied, and you’ll be placed in a supportive surgical bra to aid healing and reduce swelling.

    • You’ll be monitored in the recovery area before being discharged home the same day with post-operative instructions. A follow-up schedule will be provided to track your healing and results.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • During surgery, Dr. Gupta places the mesh inside the breast to reinforce the tissue and provide added support. Over time, the mesh becomes integrated with your body, creating a natural, stable foundation for the breast.

  • The mesh materials used—Galatea and TIGR—are bioresorbable, meaning they are gradually absorbed by the body and replaced with your own collagen. While the mesh eventually dissolves, the support it creates remains long after.

  • This technique is ideal for patients undergoing breast augmentation, lift, reduction, or revision surgery—especially those with thin or stretched tissue, or those looking to prevent sagging and maintain upper pole fullness over time.

    • Long-lasting internal support

    • Reduced risk of implant shifting or bottoming out

    • Enhanced breast shape, projection, and cleavage

    • Natural-looking results with added durability

    • Integrates with your own tissue over time

  • The internal bra is made from surgical mesh, typically Galatea or TIGR—both composed of bioresorbable materials. Galatea is made from a special polymer called P4HB, which is strong, flexible, and gradually absorbed by the body. TIGR mesh is a combination of fast- and slow-absorbing fibers that provide support during healing, then safely dissolve as your body builds natural collagen in its place. Both options are designed to reinforce the breast internally while promoting natural tissue regeneration.

  • No! Internal bras are not one size fits all. The type, size, and placement of the mesh are carefully customized by Dr. Gupta based on your anatomy, surgical goals, and level of support needed.
