Rhinoplasties
What is a Rhinoplasty?
Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is a surgical procedure that reshapes or resizes the nose to improve its appearance, balance, and function. It can address concerns such as a hump on the bridge, a wide or crooked nose, or a drooping or bulbous tip. Rhinoplasty can also correct breathing issues caused by structural problems inside the nose. The goal is to create a natural, harmonious look that complements your facial features.
Why get a Rhinoplasty?
-
Rhinoplasty can reshape the nose to correct size, shape, or proportion concerns for better facial harmony.
-
The procedure can address structural problems like a deviated septum and can be combined with a septoplasty to improve airflow and breathing.
-
Rhinoplasty can restore the nose’s appearance and function after accidents or injuries.
-
Many patients feel more confident and comfortable with their facial appearance following rhinoplasty.

The Procedure
Here’s what you can expect during your rhinoplasty procedure.
-
Rhinoplasty is performed under general anesthesia to ensure you're fully comfortable during surgery. Local anesthesia with sedation may be used in select minor cases.
-
Dr. Gupta will choose either a closed rhinoplasty (incisions inside the nostrils) or an open rhinoplasty (a small incision across the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils), depending on the complexity and goals of your procedure.
-
Depending on your desired outcome, Dr. Gupta may:
Remove or sculpt nasal bone and cartilage to reduce a bump
Refine the nasal tip
Narrow the nasal bridge or nostrils
Straighten a deviated septum to improve breathing (septoplasty)
-
If more support or definition is needed, cartilage grafts may be taken from your septum, ear, or rib to reinforce or enhance the nose’s structure.
-
Incisions are closed with fine sutures. A small external splint is applied to maintain the nose’s shape while healing. Internal splints or packing may also be placed for additional support.
-
You’ll go home the same day. Swelling and bruising peak within the first week, and the splint is usually removed around day 7.
Residual swelling—especially at the tip—can take months to fully resolve.Follow-up visits with Dr. Gupta will track your healing and final results.

FAQs
-
A “closed” rhinoplasty refers to limiting the incision to within the nostril. While this does avoid a visible scar, it is much more difficult and at sometimes impossible to perform the appropriate surgical maneuvers to correct many patient complaints.
An “open” rhinoplasty involves an incision that connects the nostrils across the columella. This allows for complete visualization of all the nasal structural components and allows for complete repair and recontouring of the nose.
-
Most swelling and bruising occur around the eyes and nose for the first week. A splint is worn for about 5–7 days, and while you can resume light activities quickly, final results take several months as subtle swelling slowly fades.
-
In open rhinoplasty, a small incision is made across the columella (the skin between the nostrils), which typically heals to a nearly invisible scar. In closed rhinoplasty, all incisions are made inside the nose, leaving no external scarring.
-
Rhinoplasty results are permanent. While minor changes can continue as your nose settles over the first year, the overall shape and structure should remain stable for life.
-
With a healthy lifestyle and stable weight, the results of a Mommy Makeover can last many years, though natural aging will continue.
-
Yes, and it often is. A septoplasty straightens a deviated septum to improve breathing, and when combined with rhinoplasty (called a septorhinoplasty), it allows Dr. Gupta to enhance both the function and appearance of your nose in one procedure.
