What is a Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes or reduces the size of the labia minora, which are the inner lips of the vulva. Many women choose this procedure to alleviate discomfort caused by irritation or chafing during activities like exercise, wearing tight clothing, or daily movement. In addition to physical relief, labiaplasty can also improve the aesthetic appearance of the genital area, helping women feel more confident and comfortable with their bodies. The surgery is tailored to each individual’s unique anatomy and goals, with the aim of achieving a natural, symmetrical, and balanced result.

    • You will be given either local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your preference and surgical plan.

    • Dr. Gupta will review your goals and mark the areas of the labia to be reshaped.

    • Precise markings are made on the labia minora and/or labia majora to outline the tissue to be reduced or reshaped for optimal symmetry and comfort.

    • Excess tissue is carefully removed to reduce size, improve shape, and address any asymmetry.

    • Dr. Gupta uses techniques designed to maintain natural contour and sensation.

    • The incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures, minimizing discomfort and eliminating the need for suture removal.

    • A light dressing is applied to protect the surgical site and reduce swelling.
You will receive detailed aftercare instructions to promote healing and comfort.

    • Recovery typically involves mild swelling and discomfort for 1–2 weeks.

    • You should avoid strenuous activity and sexual intercourse for at least 4–6 weeks.

    • Follow-up visits will monitor healing and ensure desired results.

Trim Technique

The trim technique involves removing excess tissue along the edge of the labia minora for a smoother, more uniform contour. It’s ideal for patients who want a more minimal, flush appearance or have darker edges they’d like removed.

Wedge Technique

The wedge technique removes a V-shaped piece of tissue from the thickest part of the labia while preserving the natural edge. This method maintains more of the natural anatomy and is often chosen for a subtler reduction with less impact on pigmentation.

  • No. Labiaplasty does not leave visible scars, they are concealed in the natural creases of the skin.

  • While it’s safe to have labiaplasty before pregnancy, many women choose to wait until after they’re done having children. Pregnancy and vaginal delivery can stretch the tissue again, potentially altering your surgical results.
