Face Lifts
What is a Face Lift?
A facelift is a surgical procedure aimed at reducing visible signs of aging by tightening and lifting the skin and underlying tissues of the face and neck. Over time, factors like gravity, sun exposure, and loss of skin elasticity can cause sagging skin, wrinkles, and jowls. A facelift addresses these concerns by smoothing wrinkles, firming loose skin, and improving the contour of the jawline and neck. The procedure helps restore a more youthful, refreshed, and natural appearance, allowing you to look like a revitalized version of yourself.
Why get a Face Lift?
-
Many patients feel more confident and refreshed with a younger, more vibrant look after a facelift.
-
The procedure softens deep lines around the nose and mouth (nasolabial folds) and reduces jowls.
-
A facelift tightens and lifts sagging skin on the face and neck, restoring a more youthful contour.
-
By repositioning underlying muscles and tissues, a facelift improves facial contours and definition.

The Procedure
Here’s what you can expect during your face lift procedure.
-
You will be placed under general anesthesia or sedation with local anesthesia for your comfort.
Dr. Gupta will discuss your goals and mark incision sites, typically around the hairline and ears.
-
Incisions are made along natural creases around the temples, in front of and behind the ears, and sometimes under the chin.
These are designed to be as discreet as possible.
-
The SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) layer beneath the skin is lifted and tightened to restore youthful contours.
This helps improve sagging in the cheeks, jawline, and neck.
-
After tightening the deeper tissues, excess skin is carefully trimmed away.
The skin is then re-draped smoothly over the newly contoured structures.
-
Incisions are closed with fine sutures to minimize scarring.
Sterile dressings are applied, and sometimes drains are placed to reduce fluid buildup.
-
You will recover under close observation before going home.
Swelling and bruising typically last 1–2 weeks.
Dr. Gupta will provide post-op care instructions and schedule follow-ups to ensure healing and optimal results.

Types of Face Lifts
-
A mini or lower facelift is a less invasive procedure that refreshes the lower third of the face. It involves smaller incisions and typically a quicker recovery time compared to a full facelift.
-
This procedure focuses on the jawline, jowls, and upper neck—helping to reduce sagging and improve facial definition.
-
Ideal candidates have mild to moderate signs of aging in the lower face, good skin elasticity, and are seeking subtle, natural-looking results without extensive downtime.
Mini/ Lower Face Lift
Mid Face Lift
-
A medial facelift, also known as a midface lift, focuses on lifting the central portion of the face to restore youthful contour and volume.
-
It primarily targets the cheeks, under-eye area, and nasolabial folds, helping to elevate sagging tissue and reduce deep creases.
-
Patients with volume loss or sagging in the midface, but minimal aging in the lower face or neck, are typically good candidates for a medial facelift.
Full Face Lift
-
A full facelift is a comprehensive procedure designed to lift and tighten the lower, mid, and sometimes upper face. It is often combined with neck rejuvenation for the most dramatic results.
-
It addresses the cheeks, jawline, jowls, and neck—smoothing deep wrinkles, tightening loose skin, and restoring youthful contours throughout the face.
-
Ideal candidates are individuals with moderate to significant facial aging, especially in the lower and midface, who are looking for long-lasting, transformative results.
Add on Facial Fat Grafting
-
Facial fat grafting (also called fat transfer) is a procedure where fat is taken from another part of your body—typically the abdomen or thighs—and injected into areas of the face to restore volume, smooth wrinkles, and enhance facial contours.
-
Common areas include the cheeks, under-eye hollows, nasolabial folds (smile lines), temples, jawline, and even the lips. It’s especially effective for creating a youthful, fuller appearance without implants or fillers.
-
Fat grafting results are long-lasting, and some of the transferred fat becomes permanent. About 60–70% of the fat typically survives, and final results are visible after swelling subsides—usually within 2–3 months.
-
Yes, it’s generally very safe when performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon like Dr. Gupta. Since your own fat is used, there’s no risk of allergic reaction, and the results often look and feel more natural than synthetic fillers.
Face Lift vs Deep Plane Face Lift
Traditional Face Lift
-
Focuses more on tightening the skin and the superficial layers for a refreshed, smoother appearance.
-
Generally lasts around 5–10 years, depending on skin quality, age, and lifestyle.
-
Great for those with mild to moderate laxity looking for noticeable improvement with less invasive techniques.
-
Repositions the deeper facial muscles and connective tissue (SMAS layer), not just the skin, providing natural and longer-lasting results.
-
Typically lasts 10–15 years due to the deeper structural lift.
-
Ideal for patients with moderate to advanced facial aging who want more dramatic yet natural rejuvenation.
Deep Plane Face Lift
FAQs
-
Most patients feel comfortable returning to social activities within 10–14 days. Swelling and bruising peak around days 2–4 and gradually improve; full healing and final results can take several months.
-
Makeup can usually be worn around day 10, depending on how incisions are healing. Many patients return to work (especially remote or non-physical jobs) within 1–2 weeks.
-
A traditional facelift can last about 7–10 years, but you will continue to age naturally. Factors like sun exposure, skincare, smoking, and genetics can impact how long the results hold.
-
Incisions are placed around the ears and hairline to be as discreet as possible. With proper aftercare and time, scars typically fade and are difficult to notice.
-
Most patients describe the recovery as more “tight” or sore than painful. Discomfort is usually well managed with medication and tends to improve significantly after the first few days.
