Chin Augmentations

What is a Chin Augmentation?

Chin augmentation is a cosmetic procedure that enhances the size, shape, or projection of the chin to create better facial balance and harmony. This can be done using a chin implant or by reshaping the bone to achieve a stronger, more defined jawline.

Chin augmentation is often chosen by individuals who feel their chin is too small, recessed, or out of proportion with other facial features. The goal is to create a natural-looking, balanced profile that complements your unique facial structure.

  • Chin augmentation improves the proportion between the chin, nose, and jawline for better facial harmony.

  • Adding volume to the chin can create a stronger, more defined jawline and profile.

  • This procedure addresses a weak or recessed chin, enhancing overall facial structure.

  • Many patients feel more confident with a balanced and sculpted lower face.

The Procedure

Here’s what you can expect during your Chin Augmentation procedure.

    • The procedure is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, depending on your surgical plan.

    • An incision is made inside the mouth along the lower gumline or under the chin to avoid visible scarring.

    • A custom-fitted chin implant is placed over the chin bone to enhance projection and definition. In some cases, Dr. Gupta may reshape the bone (genioplasty) instead of using an implant.

    • The implant is secured, and the incision is closed with dissolvable sutures.

    • A compression bandage or chin strap may be applied to minimize swelling and help the implant settle properly.

  • You’ll return home the same day. Swelling and bruising are normal and typically resolve within 1–2 weeks. Most patients return to non-strenuous activities in a few days.

 FAQs

  • The incisions will be inside the mouth. Avoid eating spicy or crunchy foods for 1 week after your surgery to avoid irritating the new incisions.

  • Chin implants are permanent and do not need to be replaced unless complications arise. Fat grafting is long-lasting, although some of the fat may be naturally absorbed by the body over time.

  • Recovery is usually mild, with swelling and tightness in the chin area for a few days. Most patients return to work and normal activities within 5–7 days.

  • Yes—in a good way! Chin enhancement can significantly improve your facial profile, jawline, and overall balance, especially when combined with procedures like rhinoplasty or neck contouring.
