What is a facelift?
It is cosmetic surgery designed to turn back the clock by improving the signs of aging. The procedure lifts and tightens sagging skin and the underlying soft connective tissue, and removes excess skin and fat. Superficial muscle aponeurotic system (SMAS) is the facial connective tissue system that loosens with age, and along with gravity creates jowls. SMAS elevation is the most effective way to tighten the area including improving the appearance of the jawline.
Are there other complimentary procedures?
For a more comprehensive rejuvenation, your facelift can be combined with an upper and lower eyelid lift, and eyebrow procedures; or a forehead lift.Verve Plastic Surgery also offers facial fat grafting which has more permanent results that dermal fillers. Chin and cheek augmentation can replace lost fat pads. A facelift will not improve your facial skin tone and texture, but treatments like laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, IPL, and peels can.

How long is recovery, and when can I go out in public?
Generally, recovery from a facelift, without additional procedures, takes about 3 weeks for initial healing. The first four days are the most uncomfortable. You will be sore, tender and swollen, with bruising. Your skin will feel tight. Any discomfort is treated with mild pain medications. By day 5, most patients report that they feel and look great! Swelling and bruising rapidly improve by one week after surgery.
Within two weeks most bruising resolves, with some residual swelling. The major landmark in recovery is at 2 weeks. By then you can wear makeup, color your hair and return to work, while results continue to improve. For the first month, you will be advised that you should avoid heavy lifting and straining, and no working out for 3 weeks. The less active you are the faster the swelling will resolve.
If you plan to attend a momentous event like a wedding, give yourself at least 2 months.
