Scar Revision and Acne Treatment

Are you self-conscious of noticeable imperfections such as scars or acne? Even small marks or patches of acne may be bothersome if they are raised, recessed or otherwise unsightly. Dr. Anshu Gupta can treat acne and improve the appearance of scars at his Solana Beach plastic and reconstructive surgery practice, Verve Plastic Surgery. Many individuals choose plastic surgeons to treat these issues when they are located in cosmetically sensitive areas, such as the face, neck, chest or breasts; perhaps this is because plastic surgeons are always conscious of producing the best aesthetic results.

More about Scar Revision

Scars are visible marks left behind from a burn, tear or cut in the skin. They may be raised or recessed, or feel numb, itchy, painful or sensitive. Scars range in severity and some can be quite disfiguring. Scars in certain locations can physically impede movement; for example, a scar on a joint may limit range of motion.

Scars can be minimized with injectable therapy, surgical excision or surface treatments. The goal of scar revision is to make the scar look more consistent with the surrounding skin. This can be accomplished through injectable therapy, surface treatments or surgical excision.

Injectable therapy is most appropriate for scars that are depressed or concave. A dermal filler product is injected into the depression to fill it in. The results of dermal filler treatment last temporarily, and repeat treatment is required to maintain the results. Surface treatments involve removing the top layer of skin to reveal a fresh, healthy layer of skin underneath. Performed using laser energy, dermabrasion or a chemical peel solution, surface treatment will soften irregularities in texture and improve the scar’s pigmentation. Surgical excision completely removes the scar, and may be appropriate for deeper scars.

In many cases, Dr. Gupta can perform scar revision in the office using local anesthesia for complete patient comfort. The recovery process varies, depending on the size and location of the scar and the revision technique used.

More about Acne Treatment

We often work with patients that are embarrassed by noticeable acne and/or acne scarring left from previous breakouts. To improve the appearance of acne and scarring, we will create a customized solution, using our facial, skin care and chemical peel options. Your acne treatment plan will be suited to your specific skin type, the type of acne scarring you have and other unique factors.

We have found that needling is an effective way to minimize the appearance of acne scars. Needling uses tiny needle pricks to stimulate the skin’s natural healing process. By injuring the skin, the body starts producing more collagen, which improves the appearance of scars. Also, we have found that dermal fillers are a great solution for filling in the depression of certain scars. They restore the volume lost by acne scarring. Laser skin resurfacing is also helpful for improving even texture to acne-scarred skin.
