Post-Bariatric Body Contouring in North San Diego County

Eliminate Loose, Saggy Skin after Weight Loss Surgery

Dr. Anshu Gupta has extensive training and experience in body contouring after weight loss surgery (bariatric surgery). Known as post-bariatric or post-weight loss body contouring, these procedures are designed for the person that has lost a significant amount of excess weight, yet is left with loose, saggy skin and undefined contours. If you identify with that description, Dr. Gupta can design a custom treatment plan for you, based on your unique needs and goals. He is diligent about recommending the most suitable procedures and thoroughly educating you on what to expect and how to prepare. He often likes to start the process early (even while you are still losing weight) so you completely understand the upcoming surgical plans.

Weight Loss Patient
58-year-old female patient with history of 200lb weight loss through strict diet and exercise regimen who was bothered by the excess skin on her arms, abdomen, and droopiness with loss of fullness of her breasts. This patient’s transformation was achieved through staged procedures. In Stage 1, a 360-degree abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) was performed. In Stage 2, bilateral brachioplasty (arm lift) was performed along with breast augmentation with submuscular saline implants, full anchor breast lift incision, Right 275cc filled to 325cc, Left 275cc filled to 325cc smooth round moderate plus profile implants used. What Does Post-Bariatric Body Contouring Entail?

Post-bariatric body contouring is ideal for the bariatric surgery patient that is unhappy with sagging skin in multiple areas, including the abdomen, back, thighs, arms, breasts, face and neck. This skin could cause painful chafing/rashes, make it difficult to fit into clothing and affect self-esteem and confidence.

If you are interested in pursuing body contouring after weight loss, you should be physically and mentally healthy, not smoke and have reasonable expectations of surgery. Understand that even though surgery will make marked improvements in your shape, your body will continue to age over time. Dr. Gupta will discuss these points with you in more detail during a personal consultation.

Every patient has different needs and a specific idea of how they would like to look after surgery. Based on your case, your post-bariatric body contouring treatment plan could include any of the following:

Lower body lift: tightens loose skin around the lower body to reshape the abdomen, thighs, buttocks and hips. The procedure is performed through an incision around the back of the hips to the front of the thighs.

Arm lift: removes excess skin and fat deposits for a slimmer and more toned upper arm contour. Arm lift is performed through an incision placed on the inside or back of the arm.

Thigh lift: removes extra skin and fat for leaner and more proportional-looking thighs. The surgical incisions are made on the inner, upper thigh (or in the groin crease).

Breast lift: removes excess skin and reshapes the breast mound higher on the chest wall. Some women opt to combine breast lift with breast augmentation for larger breasts or breast reduction for smaller breasts.

Tummy tuck: removes excess skin from the lower abdomen (that pools to create a “pooch”) and repairs weakened/separated muscles to create a flatter abdominal profile. The tummy tuck procedure also repositions the belly button higher on the abdomen. The incision is made right above the pubic hairline and runs from hipbone to hipbone.
